Every foot-high piece in this yard-square chess set was sculpted from clay by Clive and cast by him in bronze. The 32 pieces took five years to make. Every piece has amazing detail and a real character of its own. This work is a real labour of love.

The chess set gallery contains a few general overview type shots of the chess set. It is difficult to photograph because it is both large and very detailed. So these shots don’t really do it justice.

The chess pieces gallery has a detail shot of every piece (a mugshot?), showing its expression.

A different finish technique has been applied to the black and white pieces to distinguish them. Clive also made the table with inlaid polished metal squares, concealing magnets that hold the pieces secure. A fabulous bronze creature-leg and clawed foot supports each corner. As you’d expect, the table and pieces are incredibly heavy and chunky (um, in a good way).

This ultimate chess set is clearly for someone who takes their chess very seriously. It’s for sale, of course, but it is not cheap.

If you think you take your chess this seriously, please contact Clive.
