The Lost Wax Casting Process

This series of galleries documents in photos some of the main steps in the process of making a cast bronze figure, from the initial object sculpted in clay, through making the wax replica, preparing the investment mould, smelting and pouring the bronze, and final finishing of the work.

There are so many sites on the internet which detail the Lost Wax casting process. These ones in particular give excellent explanations:

  1. Bathsheba Sculpture, California

  2. Artworks Foundry, California

  3. United Artworks, California

  4. Wikipedia

Lost Wax casting in glass employs similar techniques but there are a number of marked differences. Check out these sites:

  1. Kim Perrier Studio, Bridgetown, Australia

  2. Colour de Verre, Oregon, USA

  3. Kristin Gudjonsdottir
